My dream beaches in Mallorca – Camp de Mar

From my series ” My Dream beaches in Mallorca ” I would now like to introduce you to Camp de Mar. On a beautiful sunny Sunday in November, I had the most enjoyable visit to this wonderful family friendly beach in the Southwest of Mallorca. The noble Camp de Mar lies between Port d’Andraxt and Paguera in the municipality of Calvia and has become an extremely popular holiday destination in recent years.

A special feature of this top location is the small island of Illeta which lies only a 100 mts. offshore and in the middle of the beautiful bay. Reached by a narrow wooden footbridge, the island has a restaurant and is a great place to dine at any time of day. The restaurant was closed on my visit but allowed me to wander and enjoy the full 360′ views of the whole bay.

The approximately 180 m long and huge 60 m wide safe sandy beach nestles between two cliffs, the Cap Andritxol and Cap d’es Lump, thus making a quiet, sheltered and undulating bay. The crystal clear turquoise water is so nice for bathing and snorkeling around the partly rocky seabed.

Public toilets, showers and a small convenience kiosk are available at beachside and a children’s playground offers a welcome change for families. A path of wooden planks reaching almost to the water’s edge also offers a great relief for wheelchair users and baby buggies. Sunbeds and umbrellas can also be rented to escape the hot sun.
In the summertime, day boat trips can be booked and depart from the harbour to the beautiful dragon island of Dragonera, which I have already reported on previously.

In addition to the many excellent hotels and apartments, there are many equally good restaurants dotted around the bay. With their elevated positions, they offer fantastic views, especially during the evening cocktail hours. Two of Mallorca’s best known restaurants, the famous Campino Restaurant and the Flor de Sal by Jonas Herandez are also located in Camp de Mar.

The Golf de Andratx golf course, one of the most beautiful on the island and the luxurious Steigenberger Golf & Spa Resort de Mar will also satisfy gourmets and discerning holidaymakers. There’s free parking available everywhere and many fine boutiques and various shopping possibilities in the immediate vicinity.

My conclusion : A visit to this bay is a pleasure both in Summer and in Winter. The beach with all its facilities and on-site gastronomy offers the right mix for every taste.

See you soon on my next trip which takes me to the East Coast of Mallorca and the off beaten tracks to Cala Pilot and Cala Magraner.
